英语专业学生模糊限制语应用能力的调查研究(英文)

【摘要】合理的使用模糊限制语可以促进并提高友好的交流,而话语的不恰当所造成的后果往往比语法错误严重得多,因为它会在交际中产生障碍、误解甚至憎恨。因此完全有必要了解普通民办学院学生的语用能力的现状,找出其中存在的问题。这样有利于找到解决方法,提高学生的语用能力和语言能力。通过对50名普通民办学院英语专业学生作文中的模糊限制语的使用情况的调查分析,可以得出他们使用模糊限制语的能力,并能发现其中存在的问题。

I.IntroductionSincepragmaticcompetenceispartandparceloflinguisticcompetence,moreattention,ofcourse,shouldbepaidtoitinthefieldofEFLteachingandlearning.InactualEFLteachingandlearninginourChina,mostlearnersgraspalargevocabularyandknowalotofgrammaticalknowledgebutfinditdifficulttoapplytheknowledgeintoactualcommunicationproperly(HeZiren,1997;WangDexing,1990;Honggang,1991).Thatismainlybecausetheylackpragmaticcompetence:theabilitytorecognizethecontextwhichthelanguageuserfindshimselfinandtheabilitytouseandunderstandlanguageappropriately.Privatecollegesarenewundertakingsandtheirstudentsarealsospecific.ItisnecessarytoinvestigatethepragmaticcompetenceoftheEnglish-majoredundergraduatesatprivatecollegessoastoimprovetheirlinguisticcompetencepertinentlyandpurposeful-ly.Pragmaticcompetencecanberealizedinvariouswaysandtheproperuseofhedgesisjustatypicalone.Forexample,hedgingisrealizationofcommunicativestrategiesofmitigation,politeness,indirectness,etc.Hylandeventhinksalllanguageformscanbeconsideredhedges,aslongastheyhavefunctionsasfollow:thespeakerhaslessresponsibilitytothetruthvalueofspeech;thespeakerdoesn’tmakespeechtoodefiniteandleavequestionsopen(1998:8).Althoughmanyresearchesonhedgeshavebeencarriedout,therehavebeenveryfewstudiesonthesestudents’usinghedgestoinvestigatetheirpragmaticcompe-tence.Suchastudywillbeconductedherein..ClassificationofHedgesThedesignation“hedges”wasintroducedfirstbyG.Lakoff,whichwasdefinedas“wordswhosemeaningimplicitlyinvolvesfuzziness-wordswhosejobistomakethingsfuz
